The Only Cleanse You Actually Need…

The Social Media Cleanse: the most effective cleanse and it’s FREE!

Over the last several months, I’ve had several women in my DMs complaining about certain “health” behaviors being promoted on social media and within the Jackson Hole community.

My advice was the same every single time I got one of those DMs:

UNFOLLOW or mute that account. It’s hurting your mental health. It’s actually making you less healthy because it’s taking the enjoyment out of your life.

I have debunked so many nutrition and wellness trends on social media, and I will continue to preach the basics instead of promoting shiny new diets to you, and I swear you do not need to do any kind of strict diet or cleanse to actually feel healthier.

On a personal note: it might be time to do a social media detox around the TIME you spend on apps like Instagram (my weakness). I do believe that social media can be an effective way to connect with others, but lately, I just feel addicted and overwhelmed by anxiety, partly because of the way these apps are meant to keep us addicted, constantly looking for small hits of dopamine with every like or share.

I’ve been struggling with the comparison trap, feeling like I’m not doing enough, like I need to produce content every single day to stay relevant…and that flat out is just not good for my mental health anymore.

In June, my psychologist and I decided I need more boundaries around social media. What do these look like for me?

  • No social media after 6pm.

  • Only posting 4 pieces of Instagram/TikTok content each week

  • Not looking at my phone in the morning until I've done the basics to wake up in a balanced way: drink 16-32 oz water, do my daily push-ups, make breakfast & coffee, journal for a few minutes based on a daily intention

She said, "I don't expect perfection with these, but it's time to be intentional with your social media use instead of feeling constantly tied to it. You need to remember your identity outside of ‘Eden, the registered dietitian and nutrition influencer’.”

Do you have boundaries around social media? Here are some suggestions that were given to me by my followers and friends to help me disconnect from it: set screen time limits for the app, take weekends off, and turn off notifications.
